Ketchikan VS. Juneau

Ketcikan played Juneau this weekend. It was so much fun. Ketchikan and Juneau have a huge rivalry going on. It's gone on for years and years. Juneau is a bigger city and therefore they have a lot more students to pull from. They are usually pretty tough to beat. Not to mention that their program has a lot more funding than ours does. You all know who Carlos Boozer is....Utah Jazz....well, he is from Juneau. Since, that is his alma mater he donates $150,000 a year to Juneau's basketball program. So we're a little jealous. However, this weekend we swept Juneau 6-0. We played them Friday and Saturday nights. The Freshman, JV, and Varsity all three won both nights. It was pretty awesome. Juneau definitely did not expect to come to Ketchikan and get their rear's kicked. 

Travis is now 6'2.5" (with shoes 6'4"). This kid #33 was 6'5".

I liked this picture because the one in the middle is Travis' best friend Nikk. The 2 Juneau players are the boys that I housed this weekend. #35 is Jesse and #41 is Jacob. They were both way cool. Jesse and Jacob were really friendly and interactive. They would hang out in the living room and talk with us. The last time I housed the boys didn't say 2 words. They would go straight into their room. I think I've mentioned before that when the teams in SE Alaska travel they house out with other players, which means they stay at their houses. They don't ever stay in hotels. It costs them a fortune to travel. It costs the school on average $10,000 per game/trip to travel just for the plane tickets. You can see why they don't stay in hotels. 

Piano Recital

The kids have a wonderful piano teacher. I was so thrilled when we moved here and so many guys in the ward played the piano. In fact, most of the time our organists and pianists are men.

The recital was on December 18, 2008.

Jayley turned 13 December 18.

Jayley is such a wonderful daughter. I'm so proud to be her Mom. 

She is...

1) a straight A student (currently her lowest grade is a 97, three  classes are above 100)

2) she's innocent (she doesn't care about looks, clothes, make-up, she's very sincere and well, just innocent)

3) She is friendly and nice to all. She never leaves anyone out.

4) She is a great athlete. (Yes, that makes me very proud.)

5) She is a super great helper to me with all my motherly duties.

Blogging Slump

How do I get out of the blogging slump??? I can't seem to get out of it. I don't know why, but I don't feel like blogging. I'm enjoying reading everyone else's. I just can't get motivated to post anything. I still have pictures from Jayley's birthday and the kids Christmas Piano Recital. Hopefully soon I will post those. I've been waiting all year for the year to end so I can have my blog printed into a book. It will be my family's yearbook for 2008. Perhaps that's why I haven't posted the birthday or recital. That will mean more work........I will have to get it ready to be printed.....hmmmm.

Church canceled again!

We had another storm come in last night. It caused for church to be canceled again. It's so strange. I've never had church canceled 2 weeks in a row. I have to say I have loved it. Isn't that terrible? But both Sundays I was so relieved and excited to hear that Church was canceled. Last week, I was recovering from Christmas and still trying to move. This week I was recovering from the CCCC (basketball tournament). 

Because church was canceled we watched  "The Ten Commandments". It is one of mine and Ron's favorites. I think we've watched it at least once every 2 years since we've been married. It's one that you can watch over and over.

This is a tradition that Ketchikan has done for like 30 years. They host an annual 

Clark Cochrane Christmas Classic.

It's a basketball tournament that goes from Wednesday-Saturday. They bring in teams from all over. Some years they even had teams from Australia, Maryland, Massachusetts. It's a really nice tournament. It's put together very well. It is for boys and girls varsity. It's enjoyable to watch most all of the games. We had several friends that also spent most of the day at the gym. We all hung out and had a lot of fun. It was a fun 4 days. We were all housing too. That's where we take in players from other teams. I had two boys from Craig, Alaska. They were very nice.
