Welcome to the World Ella

My niece Ella came into the world Saturday at
25 weeks 3 days
March 20, 2010
1 lb. 6 oz.
My sister-n-law Chrissy was put in the hospital 3 weeks ago fighting preterm labor. She lives in Ellensburg, WA and was transported to UWMC in Seattle. Jayley and I changed our plane tickets to extend our trip since we were already in Seattle. We get to stay 2 extra days to visit Randon, Chrissy, and Ella.
When I took my first picture of Ella I could tell that the camera didn't give her size justice. She looked bigger than she was. So Randon put his hand in the incubator with her to show her true size. Her head is about the size of a lemon. Her little fist is a tad bit smaller than a gumball. It is truly one of the most miraculous things I've ever seen. I knew she was tiny, but I wasn't expecting what I saw. I told Randon that I felt like I was seeing a color, 4D ultra sound. It was like peeking into the womb.
Randon and Chrissy's boys got to come today for the first time to meet their little sister. They were so excited. They were so adorable suited up to enter the NICU.

Rand, Ryan, and Randon

So far, Ella is doing better than what is expected at this gestation. I can't imagine what a long road they have ahead of them. She will be there until late June or July. They said they usually go home real close to their due dates. Ella was due July 1.

Medical technology has advanced SO much. They told them that she has a great chance of being totally normal and healthy. They said 5 years ago she would of been more likely to die or live and have lots of medical problems. Everyday I gain a greater appreciation for Doctors and hospitals. Especially, since I have 2 nieces living in hospitals right now. Both would not be alive without the assistance of awesome Drs. and nurses.

(Me, Travis, J D, Jayley, Wendy and Oakley were on a later flight) we wanted more shopping time in Seattle so we took the night flight. However, Jayley and I ended up changing our tickets a few weeks ago to spend time with my sister-n-law who was in the hospital in Seattle. We were hoping that we would be passing the days in the hospital with her on bed rest, but she had her baby on Sat.
7:00 pm: Travis, J D, Wendy, and Oakley fly home
Jayley and I head for dinner with Randon and Chrissy
8:00 pm: Off to the hospital to meet Ella
